RIP Diane Piercy

Sad news, our dear colleague Dian Piercy has passed away.
She will always be remembered for her commitment to Poulton and Somerville Ladies.

Her infectious laughter and friendly manner with everyone will stand as her legacy.

Message from Di Piercy

Hi everyone the 50/50 was drawn today by Harry (visiting the ladies) number 37 Derek Macdonald !! And number 10 Val Hunt !! I don’t think Derek is on this chat so if anyone can tell him please? Also he hasn’t paid to date so if you can explain and maybe I could take out of winning! I’m sorry everyone I was going to try to come to one of your games but either not well enough or too cold 😏🥺 so haven’t been able to collect the money but if you chose a number at the meeting it has been going in t he draw each week wether paid or not 👍thanks for your support and patience 👍😉

EGM/Subs Meeting

We are holding a meeting on Friday 9th February at the RNA Club, Seacombe to discuss the need to find a new Greenkeeper, due to Carl's departure, members will also have the chance to pay their annual membership subs.

Unfortunately members will not be able to choose 50/50 numbers as Diane Piercy cannot make it to this meeting.

Following the Wallasey League AGM the league committee are asking for all members opinion as to the structure of the league for next year.

We either continue with the two divisions, or revert back to three smaller divisions.
Remaining with two divisions will mean the Pairs League will almost certainly not take place and matches running into September again. Whereas reverting to three divisions would allow for the Pairs to resume, split between April and August/September. It would also probably allow for more flexibility in the main league for postponed matches to be rearranged. Could you all please let me know your views before 15th December.
Thanks, Keith

After this year’s AGM I can report that the club is in a pretty healthy position financially, and the ‘winter work’ on the green will go ahead shortly. All team officials remain the same, as all were re-elected en bloc.

All subs and fees remain unchanged.

As we are roughly at the half stage of the season in all leagues, I thought it would be good to note where Poulton B.C. stands in each division.

Wallasey League: at this point, we are in 4th place (of 11) in division 2, half a point behind Hoylake Central and 5 1/2 points ahead of Sandridge.

Birkenhead: we are in 3rd place in division 3, with a record of played 12, won 8, lost 4, with 111 points, 13 points behind 2nd placed Thingwall and 9 points ahead of Bebington Park.

Vets: Poulton’s Vets are currently in 6th place in division 4, with a played 8, won 6, lost 2 record, and 56 points.
Hopefully we can keep winning the majority of our matches and maintain our excellent progress this season.

Just wanted to highlight all the work Harry has done at the green recently. He has single-handedly cleared the over growing trees and ivy, organised the repairs of the burst pipes in the club hut and the toilets, and cleared the gutters around the green! Really well done Harry! 😊🙌🏻

So sad to announce the passing of two of our dearest friends and colleagues.

Allen Bennett passed away on 26th December in Arrowe Park Hospital. His funeral is on 27th January at Landican Crematorium (South Chapel) at 1.30pm. Followed by a wake at the RNA Club, Seacombe.

Also, Lol McCann has passed away after battling pancreatic cancer.
Details of Lol's funeral will be posted when known.

our deepest sympathies go to both families.

We will forever miss these two elder statesmen of Poulton Bowls Club

13th December

At last week's Birkenhead League Afternoon Section AGM it was decided that the Vets teams should be allowed to recruit female players, if they wish to.
This will hopefully save several teams from folding or being fined for turning up to matches player/s short, thereby incurring £2 fines for each missing player.
Any Poulton ladies who might like to be part of our Vets team, please let myself (Keith) or Harry know
